I’ve been hearing mention of Claudio for some time now online in various bass related forums and networking sites.  Italian born Claudio now lives in Frankfurt, Germany (with a 3 year stint at the Berklee College of Music in between).  I was pretty excited to receive the new album and get to listening!  First, it’s a wonderful looking CD.  Top notch design and presentation.  But…. If you’re looking for a new bass-wanker album….this ain’t it (thankfully!).  Don’t get me wrong, the playing is great!..  It’s just that (gasp!) musicality and composition seems to be the goal here.  ok, sarcasm aside, this is a very nice album. The writing is solid (slightly predictable, but very well done) and the band sounds great.  Claudio’s playing is very studied and appropriate.  He never tries to stand out at the expense of the song, which I love to hear.  There may be slightly more bass solos than say, if the CD was put out by the drummer, but other than that, you’d never know this was the bass player’s project!  I applaud Claudio’s musical maturity and look forward to hearing more from him in years to come.
