Share

The Bassquake Organization and Los Angeles Music Academy are presenting Pasadena Bass Day. Much planning and preparation has gone into the development of this event and you can believe it will be of great substance to your craft and musical endeavors. Here is a rare opportunity to learn and study with some of the greatest musicians in the world.

“Bass Day is the first of its kind for the city of Pasadena,” says Jerry Watts, head of LA Music Academy’s Bass department. “Bassquake’s Pete Decuir is a great friend of mine and we partnered together to create the first Bass Day event in 2006. I was happy to encourage the academy to host this year’s event, not only for our community, but for all interested musicians throughout Southern California. Watts says the event is a fun and entertaining learning experience capped by awe-inspiring genre-crossing performances from which all levels of musicians can learn.

Scheduled artists are Brian Bromberg,  Bill” The Budda”Dickens, the legendary Chuck Rainey, Alex Al, Jerry Watts Jr., Jonathon Herrera, Doug Johns, Oscar Cartaya, Terrance Palmerand, and Abe Laboriel. There will be a pre-clinic bass jam live at the Baked Potato on July 18th featuring Oscar Cartaya and En’Clave, Doug Johns, Bill Dickens and friends, and Jerry Watts Jr. and friends.

Clinics will be held at the LA Bass Academy on the 19th and will include breakout sessions with each clinician in a classroom setting. A wide range of topics and styles will be presented including Gospel, Jazz, Rock, Fusion, Funk, and Latin, including groove playing, listening (using your ears), soloing concepts, constructing walking bass lines, approaches to studio and live performances, and the business of music. There will also be a session on instrument care and proper set up.

This year they will also have a host of bass guitars, amps, cabinets, and electronic manufactures joining us in our 6000 square foot showroom located upstairs at the LA Music Academy. This is your chance to test out some of the gear you’ve heard about at the Namm show or on-line. The Amp Shop/Bass Exchange will be onsite representing several additional manufacturers. Some of the vendors will be Kot Basses, ThunderFunk Amps, Aguilar Amplification, EBS, Carvin, Genz Benz Amps, DR Strings, and LaBella Strings.
