Italian bassist Alberto Rigoni has obviously worked very hard on his first solo release, “Something Different”. The first thing that struck me was the range of styles covered here… Super saturated solo bass pieces, Early Genesis like Prog-rock, quirky funk with a sense of humor and hard driving distortion laden Tool-like riffs abound, each song is it’s own entity. Alberto obviously has a good sense of humor and each track displays some very musical sensibilities. While some tracks really bring you in and make you listen, others just make you laugh out loud and there’s nothing wrong with that! While there is an “epic” vibe to many of the pieces, it never comes across as pretentious.
