Interview by Editor Jake Kot
Many times I find myself speaking in terms of the 21st Century musician. Obviously I have my own personal take on that statement, and bassist Jonas Hellborg fits that paradigm to a tee. His history takes him back to the groundbreaking work he did with John McLaughlin in the late seventies, being one of a handful of bassists of that era that were breaking the rules and expanding the voice of the oh so young electric bass at that point in time. This was also the time when he developed his ongoing love affair with the Indian music of the East, immersing himself in the Northern and Southern Indian classical architecture, and bringing the elements of that genre to his musical persona.
