Fretless Virtuoso Mark Egan has paired himself with Vinnie Colaiuta, Bill Evans, Mitch Forman and Roger Squitero on this groove-fest and, wow… I mean, how can you go wrong with this lineup??
Answer: you can’t!
This album harkens back to Mark’s earlier days in NYC playing R&B and funk with Steve Jordan, Hiram Bullock and many more of the NY elite in the 70′s and beyond. Vinnie was (and always is) a brilliant choice here. The grooves really flow and VC’s playing is just so hip, it can be hard to listen to anything else! That said, everyone sounds wonderful here and Mark’s deep grooves are minimalistic but with just the right melodic statements in all of the right places. Listening to this album, you really hear what separates the pros from the rest of the herd.. The playing is slick and full of pocket. A groove album throughout with a hint of old school fusion mastery thrown in.. definitely one worth checking out!
