The New York City based jazz ensemble Travis Sullivan’s Björkestra will be kicking off the summer concert series at The Gazebo at Strathmore in North Bethesda, MD with a free outdoor concert (June 23rd), followed be performances at NightCat in Easton, MD (June 25), and World Café Live in Philadelpha, PA (June 26).
In addition to Sullivan on alto saxophone, this “mini-tour” will feature Bjorkestra regulars Ian Cook on laptop, Sean Nowell on tenor saxophone, Joe Abba on drums, Yoshi Waki on bass, Dave Cook on piano, and Shayna Steele on vocals.
“I’m very excited about these shows”, says Sullivan. “Not only am I thrilled to be working with a stellar line-up of musicians, I am particularly interested in hearing how this music will evolve over the course of these three nights.” Sullivan has also reduced the Björkestra from its usual 18 piece big band setting to a septet, which he states will “allow for more improvisation and more intimacy in the exploration of this music.”
