Diamond Rugs to Premiere Country Mile Via Rolling Stone with Bassist Robbie Crowell

Diamond Rugs to Premiere Country Mile Via Rolling Stone with Bassist Robbie Crowell… Having returned from an outstanding run of shows at SXSW, Diamond Rugs are excited to premiere the new single off their forthcoming debut, Diamond Rugs, which will be released on April 24th on Partisan Records. “Country Mile,” which features lead vocals by Dead Confederate’s Hardy Morris, can be streamed and downloaded HERE via Rolling Stone. The band will release their next single, “Blue Mountains,” in May, and plan to shoot their first music video in June. TV audiences will be able to catch Diamond Rugs’ high-energy, raucous set with the band’s network debut on the Late Show with David Letterman June 25th. Diamond RugsPaste Magazine’s “#1 Album We’re Looking Forward to in 2012,” can be preorded at http://diamondrugs.net. The various preorder packages include everything from limited edition vinyl to a signed poster to a beer koozie.

Diamond Rugs, the collaboration between John McCauley (Deer Tick), Robbie Crowell (Deer Tick), Ian Saint Pé (The Black Lips), Steve Berlin (Los Lobos), Hardy Morris (Dead Confederate) and Bryan Dufresne (Six Finger Satellite), was deemed one of Rolling Stone’s “25 Cant Miss Acts at SXSW,” and after catching one of their sets, Austinist agreed, calling them one of their “accidental favorites.”The Independent (UK) declared “their humorous, sleazy blues-rock, with song titles such as ‘Hungover and Horny,’ was possibly our favourite show of the festival,” while Nashville Scene championed, “their swaggering, pontoon-ready Southern pop-rock fuckin’ rules…One of our favorite discoveries of South By.” Early reviews of the record seem to agree, with MAGNET hailing them “a rocking and rollicking package” and Alternative Press enjoying their “delightfully dingy, wholly irrepressible rawk.”

Last fall, McCauley decided he wanted to make another record during his downtime in his new home base of Nashville with producers Adam Landry and Justin Collins (Middle Brother, Deer Tick). While attending a Los Lobos show (one of his all-time favorite bands), he made his way backstage and met Steve Berlin. McCauley convinced Berlin to come to Nashville to play on the record. Over the course of the next month, he also managed to convince Saint Pé (whom he’d met once before), Morris (who had opened for Deer Tick on tour) and his good friend from his hometown of Providence, RI, Dufresne. McCauley also recruited Deer Tick keys/sax player Robbie Crowell to play bass on the album.

What happened next was entirely unexpected – the musicians McCauley had recruited to play on his record, ended up contributing their own songs to the album and a fully-formed band emerged, rather than a group of musicians playing on another artists’ record. Between them all, the members of Diamond Rugs have, in the past, collaborated with the likes of Paul Simon, Mark Ronson, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello and The Replacements; they have won several Grammy awards and performed on Letterman, Conan, Leno, Later with Jools Holland and even at The White House.
