Jazz Improvisation with Andrea Fascetti: Bebop Lesson 4

Jazz Improvisation with Andrea Fascetti: Bebop Lesson 4…

HI MY “BASS” FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES!

HOW ARE YOU? ARE YOU STILL PRACTICING BEBOP STUFF? I HOPE YOU’RE STILL BE-BOPPIN’. HOWEVER SUMMER IS HERE AND TODAY I FEEL VERY GOOD-TEMPERED…. SO THIS IS A REALLY SHORT LESSON. NEXT TIME I’LL BE VERY BAD ;-) AND NEW LESSON WILL BE REALLY HARD TO PRACTICE

IN THE MEANTIME, KEEP PRACTING BEBOP EXERCISES AND ADD THIS NEW EASY EXERCISES TO THE MIX.

OK, IT’S TIME FOR USUAL HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT:

1) RETURN AGAIN TO DONNALEE (LAST LESSONS WE PLAY FIRST 12 BARS) AND PLAY FROM BAR 13 TO BAR 16 . PLAY IT EXTREMELY SLOWLY AND SING THE NOTES ALONG WITH YOUR BASS… IF YOU LOOK DUMB, YOU’RE PRACTICING THE EXERCISES VERY GOOD J NEXT, TRY TO TRANSPOSE IT TO SEVERAL OTHER KEYS.

2) TRY TO IMITATE THE BEBOP STYLE AND WRITE A SHORT MUSICAL PHRASE USING THE NOTES YOU FOUND IN THE BARS.

3) ANALYZE THE NOTES (IS IT A 5TH OF THE CHORD? OR A THIRD?) AND THEN WRITE THE NOTE ANALYSIS ON A PAPER.

GOOD LUCK AND HAVE A GOOD PRACTICE TIME.

SEE YOU SOON!

ANDREA
