Jazz Improvisation with Andrea Fascetti: Bebop Part 8, Your Voice!

Jazz Improvisation with Andrea Fascetti: Bebop Part 8, Your Voice!

HI MY “BASS” FRIENDS! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE POSITIVE FEEDBACK ABOUT MY LAST LESSON, “THE BEBOP EXERCISE”. I’M SURE THAT IF YOU CONTINUE WITH THIS STUFF, YOU’LL REALLY BE ABLE TO PLAY GREAT BEBOP LINES AND SOLOS! REMEMBER THAT REPETITION IS BASIC FOR YOUR MUSICAL SKILLS.

THE EXERCISES I PROPOSE WORK OVER AND OVER USING SAME PRINCIPLES. SO PLEASE ADD IT TO YOUR DAILY ROUTINE.

THIS MONTH I HAVE PREPARED AN EXERCISE THAT MOST OF MY STUDENTS HATE ? I HAVE NOTICED THAT THEY’RE ASHAMED TO SING… INSTEAD SINGING SHOULD BE A NATURAL THING! I SUGGEST YOU TO TRY TO SING, AND DON’T WORRY IF YOUR VOICE IS NOT PERFECT; EVEN MY VOICE IS NOT SO GOOD!

WE HAVE ALREADY DONE SIMILAR EXERCISES DURING MY EAR TRAINING LESSONS, BUT TODAY I ADDING SOME NEW STUFF.

OK, IT’S TIME FOR USUAL HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT.

EX 1) PICK A BEBOP TUNE, LIKE CHARLIE PARKER’S ORNITOLOGY, FOR EXAMPLE. PLAY IT MANY TIMES UNTIL YOU FEEL CONFORTABLE WITH THE MELODY AND THE NOTES.

EX 2) SING THE NOTES ALONG WITH YOUR PRACTICING.

EX 3) TRY TO SING A MELODY IN BEBOP STYLE AND WRITE IT OUT. DON’T WORRY IF YOU LOOK DUMB!

THIS EXERCISES WILL INCREASE DRAMATICALLY YOUR MUSICAL EAR AND LET YOU BE VERY CLOSE TO THE MUSIC!

HAVE A GREAT PRACTICE TIME…

CIAO
