I love effects. I also love a good cause. The folks behind “Circuits to Cure Cancer” have given us both: a way to help fight a disease while enjoying some special, handmade effects from top builders (to see a full list, please click here). Running from April 18th through April 28th, over 30 guitar pedals will be auctioned off on eBay, with 100% of the proceeds going to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. We all love effect pedals, so why not help children in need at the same time as fulfilling your tonal goals?

New Gear: Tech 21 Introduces the SansAmp XB Driver Dual-Amp/Bi-Amp/DI Bass Preamp

New Gear - Tech 21 Introduces the SansAmp XB Driver Dual-Amp Bi-Amp DI Bass Preamp

Tech 21 Introduces the SansAmp XB Driver Dual-Amp/Bi-Amp/DI Bass Preamp…

The SansAmp XB Driver integrates key elements from Tech 21’s most popular bass products –the SansAmp Bass Driver DI, Para Driver DI, Q\Strip and the dUg Pinnick Ultra Bass 1000—and condenses them into a single sleek machine. And just like that, you can go from traditional to diabolical.

The 100% analog, dual-channel SansAmp XB Driver is a sophisticated dual-amp, bi-amp, DI toolbox with 15 knobs and 3 switches. Intuitively arranged, like familiar amplifier controls, you can easily craft a broad range of bass tones without a PhD. The Clean and Drive channels are full-frequency, independent channels that can be used individually or blended together via the Mix footswitch. In Mix mode, you can engage the Crossover switch to activate the sweepable LPF & HPF filters, which enables you to even further carve out your own tone footprint.

The dual Clean and Drive channels have individual 3-band active EQ with sweepable semi-parametric mid-range and Level controls. The Clean channel includes a compressor, while the Drive channel has its own overdrive control to emulate hard-pushed amps, a Bite switch to accentuate high-end harmonics, a Pre/Post SansAmp semi-parametric mid-range switch, and the above-mentioned Crossover switch to merge high-end distortion with clean low-end bass. A Master volume completes the package.

While inspired predominantly by dUg Pinnick, the SansAmp XB Driver also gives a nod to other bass tone innovators such as Geddy Lee, John Entwistle and Chris Squire. All were notorious for running entirely separate, complicated bass amp systems together in a way that defied common logic yet yielded magical results.

As is the case with all Tech 21 SansAmps, the XB Driver offers tons of flexibility and versatility for many different styles. It runs on an included 18V DC universal auto-switching power supply with interchangeable international plugs for use anywhere in the world. Other features include 1/4-inch and XLR Outputs, Effects Loop, Tuner Out, rugged all-metal housing, metal knobs and custom footswitch actuators. Measures 7.5”l x 4.75”w x 2.0”h.

New Gear: EBS RUNSTEN, An Advanced Pedalboard Power Supply for Today's Musicians

EBS RUNSTEN Advanced Pedalboard Power Supply…

EBS is proud to announce the launch of RUNSTEN at the NAMM Show 2024, a groundbreaking DC power supply for pedalboards designed to meet the increasing demands of today’s musicians for power, flexibility, and portability. Get rid of using multiple power supplies and get ready for the RUNSTEN. It will handle all your DC power needs.

Ten powerful and isolated DC outputs

RUNSTEN provides ten isolated 9V DC outputs, eight readily switchable to 12V DC. Each output delivers up to 900 mA, nearly twice the capacity of most conventional multi-output power supplies. This increased power output allows musicians to power multiple pedals, even units usually requiring a dedicated power supply, from one RUNSTEN. It reduces the number of devices needed to power your pedals and minimizes the risk of noise issues related to power.

Up to 24V DC, or 1.8 A with included adaptors

The RUNSTEN features a cable kit that includes adaptors to use two outputs together in parallel or serial to increase the current up to 1800 mA or Voltage up to 24 V DC when required. DC distribution cables and adaptors to reverse polarity and convert the size of a connector from 2.1 to 2.5 mm are also part of the kit.

USB to charge and power devices

In addition to its powerful DC outputs, RUNSTEN features two 5V USB outputs. These provide convenient smartphone charging or power for a USB light during performances.

Ready for international touring

Designed for global use, RUNSTEN operates with 120-230V AC, ensuring its readiness for your local performances and international tours.

Ultra-light and compact

Despite its powerful capabilities, RUNSTEN maintains a compact and lightweight design, weighing just 310 grams (0.68 lbs). It is an ideal solution for musicians seeking to reduce the weight and size of their pedalboard without compromising on power or flexibility.

With the RUNSTEN, EBS continues to empower musicians’ creativity by providing innovative, space-saving solutions for their pedalboard setups, such as the original flat patch cables.

Estimated Price:  € 259.00 / $249.99

For more information about RUNSTEN, please visit EBS at NAMM booth 5441, or go to https://ebssweden.com/content2/accessories/ebs-runsten-multi-dc-power-supply/

DC Jazz Festival Announces Ron Carter and Corcoran Holt Artist Residencies

The DC Jazz Festival® (DCJF) has announced that NEA Jazz Master Ron Carter, bandleader and maestro of the bass, and ace bassist Corcoran Holt will serve as the 2024 DC Jazz Festival’s Artists-In-Residence.

A 3-time Grammy winner and 5-time nominee, Ron Carter holds the Guinness Book of World Records distinction as the most recorded bassist in recorded music history.  Carter is universally recognized as our most prolific bassist.  As a leader, he has made over 60 recordings.  As an MVP contributor to more than 2,200 recordings, he has collaborated with a who’s who of American and global music, from Geri Allen, Miles Davis and Horace Silver to peers such as Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter to Aretha Franklin, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Paul Simon and Jefferson Airplane.  Additionally, Carter has passed along his universe of musical knowledge to succeeding generations as an educator.  He is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus at City College of New York, and a faculty member at the Juilliard School.

“Serving as DC Jazz Festival Artist-In-Residence is a new affiliation that I greatly relish and look forward to,” said Maestro Ron Carter.

Ron Carter will share this residency with next-generation bassist Corcoran Holt, whose career he inspired.  A native of Washington, DC, Holt is a graduate of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts and the DC Youth Orchestra Program.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Studies degree from Shenandoah Conservatory.  Holt holds an Assistant Professorship at Arizona State University.  “My upbringing in Washington DC prepared me for my journey in life as a musician and educator. This DC Jazz Festival residency exemplifies coming full circle to my DC roots,” said Corcoran Holt. “I am truly honored to take part.”

The aim of the Artist-In-Residence program, part of DC Jazz Festival Education, is to foster deeper connections between artists, DC Jazz Festival and the jazz community.  During the residency, artists serve as guest curators, collaborate with other artists, participate in master classes and interviews, and support DC Jazz Festival Education community engagement activities.
