JAZZ BASS ON TOP – A Guide to Left-Hand Technique

JAZZ BASS ON TOP – A Guide to Left-Hand Technique… When I first had the opportunity to look through this title, it read to me almost like a mini real-book. It’s a collection of 50 classic Jazz songs, with the melody written in Bass clef along with the chord progressions. It’s says it’s intended for double bass (and provides good notes for the double bassist), but I play an electric and was able to easily understand what was being presented, and got something from it immediately. I just can’t play Arco on the electric (or at least I haven’t tried), I’ve got enough room for improvement in other areas to tend to first.

Ultimately,  it’s a straightforward study, that provides a great jump start into learning Jazz standards,  starting with the melody, and then working down – hence the title: Jazz Bass on Top.

To me, the mark of a good title, is one that makes you wish you had more time – and this one does that for me.
