Brandon Asraf – Bass Musician Magazine Q&A

Bass Musician Magazine Q&A with Bassist Brandon Asraf…

Born In What City:
Somewhere in Florida

Current Band(s) I Play With:
Brick + Mortar

Former Bands I Have Played With:
The Black Rhythm (although it was the same band – LOL)

CD’s I’ve Released/Been a Part Of:
“7 Years In The Mystic Room” E.P.  – “Heatstroke” Maxi Single – “Making Moves” Volume II (“Bangs”, “Old Boy”, and “Other Drugs”

Describe The Way You Play Bass:
Simple, Dirty and LOUD.

What Made Me Decide to Play Bass:
My best friend and band mate Tacon told me to; the rest is history.

Musical Influences:
The Doors – Pink Floyd – Beastie Boys – Beck – Wu Tang and the INTERNET!

Favorite Musical Styles:
Indie (rock, rap, electro, pop) – Hip Hop (I am a sucker for some gangster ass beats) – Pop/Classic Rock.

My Bass(es):
I have a used custom Carvin neck-through. I took out the active pickups and put in some passive ones in. Oh and added a Leo Quan Badass Bridge II. Love that thing!!!!

My Amps and Other Gear:
I use a Markbass head and combo. It’s a beast. Happiest I have ever been amp wise. If it was a woman we would bang for sure. I love it like a wife.

Best Bass Advice You’ve Ever Received:
“Notes are letters, musical phrases are words, a true musician can use these to tell a whole story.” Ryan Thompson

One Piece Of Advice For Other Bassists:
It’s important to feel the bass line; if you are not solid the song will turn to shit! Guitarists get the glory, but you are what matters.

Favorite Quote or Life Philosophy:
I follow the “never give up” philosophy. I am stubborn.

Most Amazing Gig so Far:
Our SXSW showcase.

Dream Gig:
Would love to play Coachella.

Most Embarrassing Moment on Stage:
I attempted to jump from the crowd barricade to the stage, it was probably a 5 foot gap… I didn’t make it – LOL.

What Would You Be Doing If You Weren’t A Musician:
I am an “Ocean’s 11” kind of guy. Maybe a con man.

The Question No One Ever Asks Me, But I Have Been Dying to Share:
Have you ever been homeless?

What You Can Look Forward to From Me This Year:
A record!!!! More Touring.
