Anthony Jackson, Christian McBride and John Patitucci Among Bassists at Newport Jazz 2013… The lineup for the 59th annual Newport Jazz Festival, which will take place in late summer, was announced yesterday. The legendary event, held in Newport, R.I., will again feature an incredible array of jazz bassists taking part in the festivities, either as featured performers or sidemen.

On hand will be Anthony Jackson with Hiromi’s Trio Project (which also includes drummer Steve Smith), Christian McBride playing with both Chick Corea’s Vigil Band and  David Gilmore’s Numerology, and Esperanza Spalding with her own Radio Music Society. Among other low-enders on the bill are John Patitucci with the Wayne Shorter Quartet, David Wong with the Roy Haynes Fountain Of Youth band, and  others. Headline acts include Natalie Cole, Terrance Blanchard Quintet, Robert Glasper Experiment, Joshua Redman Quartet, Jim Hall Quartet featuring Julian Lage, Michel Camilo Sextet, and many more, with additional acts to be announced.
