We Like It Here by Snarky PuppyFresh off of a 2014 Grammy win for the song “Sometimes” from their last album “Family Dinner, Vol. 1”, Snarky Puppy has released the CD/DVD “We Like It Here”.

Recorded in the Netherlands over the course of 4 nights in front of a live studio audience, the record features the group in an exciting, explorative instrumental mode.

“Of all the records we’ve made, I think I’m happiest with this one,” Michael comments. “There were some really interesting circumstances surrounding the sessions (as the DVD behind-the-scenes footage illustrates), and I think you can really feel the energy of it in the music. We took a lot of chances.

Each track moves in a different direction stylistically, but I feel like it all stays tied together conceptually.”

The record showcases Michael’s outstanding playing on both electric bass and Moog keybass. Ranging from frantic fusion (“What About Me?”) to Latin flavors (“Tio Macaco”) to deep synth inspired tunes (“Outlier”), Michael’s playing shines as a steady core of fascinating grooves and improvisation.

Snarky Puppy is currently preparing for a spring European tour. Meanwhile, the ever-working League is writing and arranging music for the next Snarky Puppy album, which will feature the group playing with the acclaimed Metropole Orchestra.

“We Like It Here” can be purchased through the band’s web site, snarkypuppy.com and iTunes. For more information on Michael, click to read his Bass Musician Magazine interview.
