Detroit Bass Day is an annual gathering of bass players from Detroit and around the country. Working in conjunction with Detroit Bass Players, on August 2, 2013 over 300 bass players came together to take a historic photo in front of the Motown Museum. Following the photo shoot the first annual Detroit Bass Day commenced with a tribute to legendary bassist James Jamerson. Performances included Ralph Armstrong, Larry Lee, Kern Brantley, and Lamont Johnson just to name a few. Words of wisdom and sentiment that touched everyone in the audience were expressed by Mrs. Jamerson, and her son James Jamerson Jr. The event attracted the support of several major manufactures like Hartke, Warwick, Artisan Bass Works, LaBella strings and Dunlop. With Media Coverage from Bass Player Magazine, No Trebel, My Pro and Fox 2 news Detroit Bass Day created a buzz that resonated around the world.
On August 9, 2014, the ceremonies will begin at high noon with a photo shoot in front of United Sound Systems Recording Studio where some of the worlds greatest Funk music was recorded. Following the picture, Detroit Bass Day will feature an all star tribute to the FUNK with performances by world renowned bass players Nate Watts, Ralph Armstrong, Tony Green and Kern Brantley backed by and all star band. Special invited guests include Byron Miller, Bootsy Collins, Al Turner, George Clinton, Amp Fiddler, Luis Resto and more.
Following the Tribute Detroit Bass Day will continue with an after party at Bert’s which will feature an all star jam session and performances by some of Detroit’s funkiest bands like Nadir Distorted Soul and Enema Squad.
