MAP is a new trio playing original material in a modern, but still quite traditional and jazzy way. The members of the group are all born in the 60’s and that gives a similar musical reference point as far as many musical influences goes although three different musical careers has been assimilated into a new total experience.
Our intention with the trio is to be able to play what we feel is close to our hearts musically and have the freedom and room to move around in any musical landscape we feel like exploring… so no limits or boundaries, just dynamic, free interplay with enough structure at times to make the music not only free form but also more social and communicating to a wider audience, still with it’s own human touch complexity.
The trio MAP consist of:
Mikael Berglund – electric bass
Mikael has a background in the 80′ jazz-funk-soul scene and bands like Life, Cabazz and Jonas Knutsson band and has since then been playing with various jazz artists as well as in more commercial venues.
He has released several albums in his own name as well as with other bands and artists on the Swedish- and international jazz scene. He also spends his time teaching electric bass and has released extensive educational material.
Anders Åstrand – vibraphone
Anders is a well known and sought after mallet speciallist, giving workshops and clinics all around the world. He focuses on melodic- and rhythmical improvisation and writes special pieces for percussion ensembles as well as other custom settings. He endorses Zildjan cymbals, uses Yamaha vibraphones and marimbas and has his own mallets from Innovative percussion. He’s the International Education Orchestral consultant for Zildjan and has one leg in the classical percussion world and the other in the more contemporary jazz field.
Pelle Claesson – drums
Pelle came to Stockholm from Örebro in the mid 80s and immediately became one of the top in demand session players on the Swedish pop/soul/R&B scene. Since then he’s been busy teaching and playing in all sorts of musical situations ranging from musicals to rock.
He’s well well-known for his signature groovy and adventurous playing at the same time as being a solid, reliable time keeper.
