Ovation Elite TX B778TX Acoustic Electric 4 String Bass

The new Ovation Elite TX B778TX Acoustic/Electric 4 String Bass takes on the classic Ovation guitar design with the signature Lyrachord roundback. The body features an AA spruce top with bass side epaulettes and a single cutaway, giving you full access up to the 20th fret. The finish is a textured satin black, giving the instrument a sleek and sharp aesthetic.  The 34” maple neck features a stained rosewood fingerboard and bridge with no inlays, adding to the matte black theme of the guitar.

Electronics are a priority to Ovation, and the B778TX-5 includes the OP Pro series preamp that features a 3 band EQ for low, mid, and highs, and also has a built in tuner. Included in the preamp is an EQ bypass switch, which allows you to use the natural tone of the bass, and eliminate unwanted tonal changes. The electronics are powered by a 9V battery, and is accessible by removing the pre amp from the body. To complement the OP-Pro studio preamp, the B778TX-5 includes the OCP-1K piezo pickup.

My first impression of the Ovation Elite TX B778TX was that it has an outstanding appearance for an acoustic/electric bass. It does not feel as cumbersome as some of the traditional acoustic/electric basses and the playability feels more like an electric bass. This bass is really comfortable and easy to adjust to and play. Another thing that stood out was the volume of sound it produces. Typically, an acoustic/electric bass is quieter than its acoustic guitar counterparts. Not the case here as it maintains volume and tone with its acoustic guitar buddies.
