Trickfish is honored to welcome the great Marshall Wood into the Trickfish family of artists.

Marshall has enjoyed a comprehensive jazz career working with true jazz masters for over thirty-eight years – he is the quintessential “Jazz Bassist”. The last 8 years his gig has been in support of the legendary Tony Bennett and he is featured on Bennett’s multi-platinum Grammy Award winning album, Duets II where he played with Aretha Franklin, Lady Gaga, Amy Winehouse, John Mayer and other luminaries. With Bennett, Marshall has hundreds of concert appearances around the world and numerous TV show appearances.

His credentials as a sideman are epic and include multiple performances, tours and recordings with: Big Joe Turner, Anita O’Day, Joe Pass, Gene Bertoncini, Gray Sargent, Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry, Ruby Braff, Urbie Green, Phil Wilson, George Masso, Al Cohn, Bud Freeman, Scott Hamilton, Warren Vache, Randy Brecker, Tommy Flanaghan, Monty Alexander, John Bunch, Makoto Ozone, Nelson Riddle, Ralph Sharon, Phil Woods, Joe Williams, Dorothy Donegan, Marian McPartland and a host of others. Marshall Wood’s recording credits include CDs with Carol Sloane, Anita O’Day, Scott Hamilton, Dave McKenna, Tommy Flanagan, Bucky Pizzarelli, Michael Moore, George Masso and Donna Byrne to name but a few.

“I have tried a ton of gear and in most cases I got a little closer to the sound I was looking for but was never totally satisfied.” states Wood. “After reading a lot of good things about Trickfish and Richard Ruse, I decided to try the Bullhead 1K and the SM 110. I wasn’t prepared for the huge improvement to my sound or the ability to control and refine my sound to accommodate different circumstances. When performing with Tony Bennett I need to have the same sound nightly. I’m looking for a sound that is natural but articulate enough to cut through and anchor the band. With this setup I can consistently get a full, deep tone which sounds like my instrument no matter what the venue is like. The precision of Mike Pope’s pre-amp allows me to consistently and quickly reproduce what I’m hearing in my head. Add to that the fact that everything is laid out in a very intuitive and friendly manner and that I can carry both the amp and speaker with my bass in one easy trip – I couldn’t be happier. With this rig I can finally just concentrate on the music!”
