Review – Hal Leonard’s Jazz Funk Play-Along

Another entry in the Real Book Multi-Tracks is Volume 5, Hal Leonard’s Jazz Funk Play-Along, containing 10 songs with complete lead sheets for C treble, Bb, Eb, and C Bass clef instruments and audio.

The audio can be played online and with the online interface you get choices for loop and tempo, ability to turn instruments on or off, and a follow along marker for the lead sheet. You can also download setter tracks to play along with offline. The online audio interface is great for playing along with, muting the bass and creating your own bass lines along with the lead sheets.

The ten songs included are from great artists including Herbie Hancock, Alfred Ellis, Josef Zawinul, and many more. Songs include “Alligator Bogaloo”, “The Chicken”, “Cissy Strut”, “Cold Duck Time”, “Comin’ Home Baby”, “Merry, Mercy, Mercy”, “Put It Where You Want It”, “Sidewinder”, “Tom Cat”, and “Watermelon Man”.
