Rotterdam, 24 June 2021 – Living legends of jazz Dave Holland & John Scofield and the classical heroes of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra to perform at the third edition of Dutch Double Bass Festival. The only festival in the world with the bass as its centre point announces its third edition in Rotterdam’s brand new Theater Zuidplein. The early bird ticket sales begin today allowing people to purchase their tickets for the festival at a discount at In total 17 acts will be performing at the festival – from pop bands to classical groups – with the double bass and bass guitar in the leading role.

First three acts announced

John Scofield & Dave Holland, two of the biggest names of the jazz world, will be performing for the first time in the Netherlands as a duo (and exclusively at Dutch Double Bass Festival). Bassist Dave Holland began his career as Miles Davis’ bassist and afterward played with nearly all of the greats, including Chick Corea, Stan Getz and Pat Metheny. He has won three Grammy Awards with his own work.

Guitarist John Scofield also worked with Miles Davis and with legends such as Charles Mingus, Herbie Hancock and Joe Lovano. Sco as well has earned three Grammy Awards under his own name. This living legend serves as an inspiration to guitarists worldwide!

Anybody who has been to Amsterdam’s opera house or legendary Concertgebouw is no doubt familiar with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra! As one of Europe’s best orchestras with a broad repertoire from Bach to Wagner. In a first for the orchestra, their bass section will be giving a solo concert! And accompanying them as soloist will be no one less than international bass sensation Božo Paradžik, who not only has performed with the best orchestras across the world but has also racked up millions of hits on YouTube with his solo work.

Bassist Hadrien Feraud and trumpeter Philip Lassiter join hands. Lassiter was Prince’s trumpeter and arranger and for DDBF he will be playing with bassist to Lee Ritenour and Gino Vanelli, Hadrien Feraud in a super funky band.

Third edition of DDBF at a new location: Rotterdam’s Theatre Zuidplein

Dutch Double Bass Festival is the festival that lets you hear just how beautiful the bass is. The only festival worldwide programmed around the bass, from jazz to classical, world to pop. With bands, orchestras and soloists. Artistic leader is bassist James Oesi, well known from among others Podium Witteman and Op1: “Most people don’t realise just how versatile the bass is: the fundament of the orchestra, a compelling solo and chamber instrument and of course essential in a jazz group. I want the world to experience just how beautiful the instrument is and its appeal to all kinds of music lovers whose hearts we aim to touch with this festival.”

Dominic Seldis (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra), the bassists of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, world bassist Richard Bona and well-known jazz bassist John Patitucci have been some of the performers at the previous two editions. On the 29th and 30th of October, we will be welcoming 17 acts in Theatre Zuidplein in Rotterdam, the theatre has just been reopened in a completely new building that has been nominated for the Rotterdam Architecture Prize 2021.
