New Album: Bassist Pops Magellan, Damage
Brazilian bassist, producer, and composer Pops Magellan announces the release of her debut EP Damage, arriving on October 24 on all digital platforms. With over 15 years of international experience, Pops has collaborated with artists such as Adam Lambert, Willow, Avril Lavigne, Travis Barker, Anitta, Artur Menezes, Larry Braggs (Tower Of Power), Cimafunk, and KUN. Now, she steps fully into the spotlight with a project that embodies her musical identity: bass, emotion, and creative freedom.
In addition to her musical innovation, Pops is one of the first Brazilian immigrant women to build an international career as a side musician and producer, paving the way for female and representation in the global music scene.
Groove with a Signature Sound
Damage features six tracks blending funk, rock, jazz, Brazilian music, and experimental electronic textures. The title track Damage opens the EP with intensity, while the instrumental version of Misunderstood appears as a surprise, revealing new layers and details of the original song.
Pops’ bass goes beyond rhythm. She developed an exclusive effect that transforms the bass into a primary melodic instrument, guiding harmonies and creating textures that no one else can replicate. Layers of synthesizers and other sonic elements complete a fully unique sound identity.
“This EP is about putting my voice out into the world so that my sound becomes increasingly unmistakable,” says Pops. “It is the journey of deconstructing and reconstructing oneself.”
Collaborations of Distinction
Recorded in Los Angeles, the EP features contributions from Taylor Graves (Mac Miller, Kimbra), Justin Brown (Thundercat), Astyn Turr (Thee Sacred Souls, Scary Pockets), Artur Menezes, Swatkins, and Stanley Randolph (Stevie Wonder). Each collaboration adds color and depth, enhancing the bass as the central voice of the project.
