Composer and Arranger Cheikh Ndoye Continues His Ascent As Leading Jazz Bassist/Multi-Instrumentalist With His New Sophomore Project, ‘Sons Of Africa.’

“Cheikh Ndoye is one of the new generation of great African Musicians.” Baaba Maal.

“Absolutely inspirational work by an amazing artist. Sounds like true art to me.” Richard Bona

‘Sons of Africa,’ the long awaited sophomore album of Senegalese musical artist Cheikh Ndoye has finally arrived! This new opus explores many sounds of the African continent including northern African Gnawa and Senegalese Sabar drums among others.

This tribute to his homeland follows Cheikh’s first critically acclaimed album, “A Child’s Tale,” which introduced him to fusion fans, not only here in the U.S. but around the world.

“Through music, I wanted to bring forward the wealth Africa is contributing to the world,” Cheikh says.

“The sounds and creativity coming out of the continent are so far from being saturated around the world. There is much more to do because Africa is so rich and can bring so much.”

This album takes the listener on a musical journey through Jazz and traditional West African music. Recorded in Senegal, Mali, France and the United States, Cheikh is joined on this album by some of his world class musician friends from around the globe, including Grammy Award drummer Raul Pineda, guitarist Mike Stern, pianist Arshak Sirunyan and Senegalese master percussionist Thio Mbaye.

Originally from Senegal, Cheikh’s fascination with the diverse sounds and rhythms of the local music scene began at an early age. Cheikh played the piano as a child and was attracted to many jazz greats. He is now a multi-instrumentalist, exposing his fans to the native instruments of his country in this album as well as in his live performances. In “Jolie,” Cheikh introduces the listener to the centuries old West African Ngoni. This bass guitar is becoming his signature style.

U.S.-based Cheikh Ndoye is currently busy touring the world with various artists of different genres sharing his talent. Cheikh is also currently working on some new ideas for his next project.
