Portinho Trio
“Vinho Do Porto”
www.myspace.com/portinhotrioBrazilian born (now NYC residing) drummer Portinho may not be a household name in this country, but he should be.  Portinho has played with Airto Moreira, Gato Barbieri, Harry Belafonte, Dom Salvador, Paquito de Rivera, Astrud Gilberto, Michel Camilo, and Tania Maria as well as appearing on a number of wonderful albums over the years.  I encourage everyone to pick up this CD in particular.  This albums comes across to me as the epitome of taste, restraint and musicality.  Just a wonderful musical experience…

Sharing bass duties on the album are Itaiguara Brandao and Lincoln Goines.  I intend to do some more research on Itaiguara…  wonderful tone and phrasing.  And Lincoln Goines?  Need I say more?!  Lincoln is a rare breed…  One of the most solid and musical bass players out there and his solos are simply beautiful.  The material is a collection of music as broad reaching as the talent.  Compositions from Wayne Shorter, Paquito D’Rivera, Don Grolnick and Hermeto Pascoal (brilliant Brazilian composer I’ve recently become more familiar with… check him out!) and more…  Just wonderful music played by some of the best the world has to offer.  Very fulfilling and inspiring effort!
