For those of you who haven’t heard of Lettuce…  Do you like Funk?
Let me save you the trouble, just go get em all.  This is the real deal..  James Brown, Tower of Power & Sly Stone hanging with Dilla…  Here ya’ go!

Hailing from NYC, Lettuce is basically an all-star band with Adam Deitch (drms) and Erick Coomes (bs) holding it down for some of the funkiest young cats you’ll find active on the scene today…  These guys don’t tour a whole bunch as a unit as they’re all busy with other wonderful projects (John Scofield, Soul Live & Wyclef, for example) but when they do, catch it.  This is old school funk done right.  Not a note fest, just a head-bobbing shout out to their collective musical heroes.

Also suggested is the “Live in Tokyo” disc but, yeah…  get em’ all.

Lettuce is the rare Berklee formed band (92′) that doesn’t sound like they went to Berklee, but instead sound like they grew up in the club listening to the best groove bands of the past 30 years.

For the bass players, Erick Coomes does funk the way it’s supposed to be done.  Funky, tasty, full of deep pocket and nothing else.  Consider this your lesson on how to keep em’ dancing and (never get fired from a gig for being one of “those” bass players).  Every note is in service to the groove and the groove is TIGHT!
