Woah.. Not yer granny’s music at ALL! But I loved it (and the live show kills. It’s a total trip.) Allow me to introduce them to you. With Skerik on horns you know it’s an interesting project. Hailing from Seattle, you might remember him from Critters Buggin, Les Claypool and a host of other projects that tour constantly around the US.
Mike Dillon covers the drums, tabla and Vibes here. Mike’s another Critter’s Buggin Alumni who currently resides in New Orleans. And lastly, but not leastly, Brad Houser on Bass! He’s played with Edie Brickell & the New Bohemians, was a founding member of Critter’s Buggin’ & plays with a real cornucopia of great musicians in Austin, TX.

These guys are definitely hard to quantify, but I can tell you it’s a great show live and the CD is a good reflection of the live energy. Heavy on the improv and spontaneous vibe, the weave seamlessly between downright noisy and aggressive grooves and incredibly musical moments of clarity. They have a knack for bringing you to the edge (often of the room, because you’re not sure if you can handle it) and, right when you’ve had enough, bring back in to your seat with some amazingly musical and creative moments. I love these guys and plan on seeing them every time they come through town. Though it’s not for everybody, if you can appreciated the art rock of the 70’s, punk, or truly spontaneous musical interactions between phenomenal musicians who aren’t afraid to use the entire spectrum of sound (both pleasing and not) to tell a story, you will have struck pure gold here.
