Bryan Beller… Wednesday Night Live

Review by Jak Kot –

Bassist and composer Bryan Beller has just released Wednesday Night Live, a recording of Beller’s band at the Baked Potato in Los Angeles. This is fusion-rock at its best. With his long time cohort Mike Keneally (guitar and keys on this effort) Bryan brings a fresh take to the many times questioned fusion-rock idiom. This band dispels the age old “fusion” axioms, all chops—little content, by bringing great compositional prowess to the forefront backed by a more than competent staff of players to make those compositions come to life.

Beller’s bass accomplishments have been many, proving his worth as the consummate sideman, and his step into the leader’s chair seems to be a natural progression for this well-rounded artist. With a collection of intricately composed, multi-track layered tunes in his repertoire, and a true touring band for the first time in his career, Bryan saw live vs. studio arrangements as a balancing act. In Bryan’s words, “The band played their asses off all night. That’s why I wanted to put this out—because I think the way they played this material really deserves to be heard.”

I recommend giving this a listen… I’m sure you’ll enjoy.
