Terri Lyne Carrington, Mosaic… For those of you not familiar with drummer Terri Lyne Carrington, let me update you quickly with a few of the people she’s worked with; Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, George Duke, David Sanborn, George Duke, Joe Sample, Al Jarreau, Diana Reeves…nuff said?

I recommend this CD to the bass community for its stunning marriage of some wonderful bassists (Including Esperanza Spaulding) with this very gifted musician. This CD has been explained as cross generational, cross cultural, and cross genre in nature, which I feel after listening to it is accurate, and is a beautiful setting for some inventive and insightful rhythm section work which permeates this entire offering.

Coming up with what I would encapsulate as a progressive musical endeavor, it’s always refreshing to hear wonderful musicianship, creative compositional prowess, and serious communication between players, especially the great rhythm section work that’s provided to set the mood for this ambitious musical undertaking. The playing is nothing less than first rate throughout this recording, and yet no one seems to stand out…a compliment to everyone involved, and an skillful approach not to be underestimated. Check it out.
