DURING THESE LAST LESSONS,WE SPOKE ABOUT SEVERAL TECNIQUES THAT GREATLY IMPROVED YOUR ABILITY TO RECOGNIZE INTERVALS, AND I HOPE THAT YOU ADDED THIS STUFF TO YOUR DAILY ROUTINE. YOU ONLY NEED 5 TO10 MINUTES A DAY TO ACHIEVE INTERESTING RESULTS. I STRONGLY URGE YOU TO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF A GREAT MUSICAL EAR… REMEMBER THAT MUSIC IS BASED ON SOUNDS!

TODAY WE’LL TALK ABOUT MY LAST CHAPTER ABOUT THIS “EAR TRAINING” STORY. OBVIOUSLY, THERE ARE MANY METHODS DIFFERENT FROM MINE, AND I RECOMMEND YOU TO CHECK OTHER “WAYS”.

HOWEVER, TODAY I WANT TO TALK ABOUT YOUR EAR, AND TRANSCRIPTIONS.

LAST LESSON, WE HAD A QUICK LOOK AT TRANSCRIPTIONS USING SHORT MUSICAL PHRASES, OR SHORT BASS LINES. NOW WE’LL MOVE TO THE BIG WORK. IT’S TIME TO TRANSCRIBE A FULL SOLO OR BASS LINE, OR IF YOU PREFER, A COMPLETE TUNE.

I KNOW…IT’S REALLY HARD. BUT AS USUAL, YOU SHOULD REMEMBER—NO PAIN NO GAIN!

LET’S LOOK AT TODAY’S HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT:

1) TAKE A BASS SOLO OR A COMPLETE BASS LINE YOU LIKE AND TRANSCRIBE IT—FIRST, WITHOUT WRITING IT! AFTER YOU HAVE IT “UNDER YOUR FINGERS”,THEN WRITE IT!

2) IF YOU WANT TO TRANSCRIBE A FULL TUNE, START FIRST WITH THE DRUMS (IF YOU LIKE), THEN THE BASS LINE, THEN THE CHORDS, AND FINALLY, THE MELODY. (THE FIRST TIME I DID THIS WORK, IT DROVE ME CRAZYJ)

THIS WORK WILL CREATE A TREMENDOUS DIFFERENCE AS FAR AS YOUR EAR IS CONCERNED, AND ABOVE ALL, YOUR BASS PLAYING… BELIEVE ME!!!
