Bassic Christmas by Baba Elefante

Bassic Christmas by Baba Elefante… Every year, I go to my local bookstore and search for gifts for friends and family. Invariably, the huge bin full of assorted Christmas CD’s always impresses me. I guess that every musician that has ever recorded at all must at some point do his or her own version of a Holiday offering. Having myself played with a group that mostly played Puerto Rican Christmas music,  I get that this is a popular niche market.

All this stated, I have wondered, why isn’t there a Bass Christmas album? Well, now there is and it is “Bassic Christmas.”

Baba Elefante has taken on the project of bringing us a CD where some classic Christmas tunes are performed by himself… and on Bass only. Sometimes he used multi basses, other times he went with just one. The instruments used included an acoustic double bass, fretless and fretted 5-string and a 4-string electric.

Baba is a skilled performer and reputable Jazz bassist so it is no surprise he does a solid job of bringing us familiar tunes in a well-arranged and precise fashion.

The song list follows:

We Wish You a Merry Christmas

We Three Kings

The Chipmunk Song

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Oh Christmas Tree

Oh Holy night

The Christmas Song

Christmas Time

Little Drummer Boy

Hark the Herald Angels Sing
