Paul McCartney’s Rickenbacker Remixed On Restored Magical Mystery Tour Movie: October will see the release of the Beatles’ newly restored Magical Mystery Tour film on both DVD and Blu-Ray for the first time, with additional footage that was cut from the original, and new edits of several song performances. It will also feature a remixed soundtrack (5.1 and stereo) and special features, including interviews with McCartney and Ringo Starr.

For bass fans, the film is notable for McCartney’s psychedelic-painted Rickenbacker 4001, featured prominently in the movie on tunes like “I Am the Walrus” (shown here with Paul in his famous Walrus costume). McCartney discussed the bass in an interview with writer Tony Bacon in 1995: “I got out the old aerosols. We were all doing that. George did his guitar, and we did the cars. If you did the cars, you might as well do your guitars. It looked great. It was just ’cause we were tripping — that’s what it was, man.”

Out of print for years, the restored Magical Mystery Tour movie will be available in a deluxe box set containing both discs and a new 60-page booklet. It will also be shown in select movie theaters on September 27th. For more information, visit The Beatles website.
