Just the Two of Us – Bass Transcription by Andreas Farmakalidis… “Just the Two of Us” is a Grammy award winning R&B song that was written by Bill Withers, William Salter as well as Ralph McDonald and was recorded by Grover Washington Jr. for the album Winelight. Winelight features many well known musicians such as Marcus Miller on bass, Steve Gadd on drums, Eric Gale guitars, Richard Tee piano, among others.

The story behind the collaboration  – Grover Washington – Bill Withers, was simple enough: Washington had worked on some of Withers’ session and the singer was simply returning the favor. The partnership yielded a huge success. Washington went on to promote the careers of other smooth jazz saxophone players before suddenly dying of a heart attack at the age of 56.

I transcribed the main groove of the song on the verse as well as the chorus. I really love Marcus Miller playing on this track; his characteristic sound is a distinct trademark and great quality.
