FIRST OF ALL, I WANT TO CLARIFY SOME INFORMATION I GAVE YOU IN MY PAST LESSONS. IF YOU TAKE A LOOK AT OLD EXERCISES, YOU FOUND MANY THINGS ABOUT BEBOP. THE EXERCISES I PROPOSE HERE ARE TO USE WITH THE INFORMATION I SUGGESTED TO YOU IN THE BEBOP EXERCISES SERIES.

I RECEIVED SEVERAL EMAILS ABOUT THE WORD “JAZZ”. REMEMBER THAT THIS IS A COURSE ABOUT IMPROVISATION, ALWAYS I TALK ABOUT JAZZ IMPROVISATION BECAUSE, IN JAZZ MUSIC YOU FIND ALL THE TECNIQUES THAT ALL GREAT BASS IMPROVISERS ARE USING. OBVIOUSLY, AFTER YOU HAVE LEARNED ALL OF THIS STUFF, YOU CAN PLAY THE KIND OF MUSIC YOU PREFER.

THIS LESSON I PROPOSE TO YOU IS THE SECOND EXERCISE OF A LONG SERIES DEDICATED TO BEBOP STYLE. I STRONGLY URGE YOU TO STUDY AND PRACTICE ALL MY PAST LESSONS ABOUT THIS ARGUMENT, TO HAVE A COMPLETE “VIEW” OF MY WORK.

AND NOW, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN HERE IS THE USUAL HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT…

EXERCISES:

1) TAKE THE EXERCISE. WHAT HAPPENS HERE?  USE A Cmin7 ARPEGGIO. YOU HAVE TO APPROACH CHROMATICALLY EVERY NOTE IN THE ARPEGGIO FROM THE LOWEST NOTE TO THE HIGHEST NOTE THAT YOU FIND ON YOUR INSTRUMENT (THIS IS WRITTEN FOR A 24 FRETS 4 STRING BASS… BUT YOU CAN ADAPT IT TO EVERY BASS!)

REMEMBER: DO NOT USE A METRONOME… ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE THE EXERCISE “UNDER YOUR FINGERS” CAN YOU USE A METRONOME. AS USUAL PLAY THE EXERCISE AS FAST AS YOU CAN!

2) TRANPOSE THE EXERCISE IN ALL KEYS!
