TODAY WE ARE CONTINUING ON WITH OUR USUAL LESSON ABOUT CHROMATIC APPROACHES. WE HAVE REACHED LESSON 7! REMEMBER THAT WE HAVE WORKED OVER MAJOR 7TH CHORDS, MINOR 7TH CHORDS, DOMINANT 7TH CHORDS, HALF DIMINISHED CHORDS AND DIMINISHED CHORDS. ALSO, I HAVE SHOWN YOU HOW TO APPLY THIS TECHNIQUE TO CHORD CHANGES.

AS I SAID DURING PAST LESSONS, I ADAPTED THIS TECHNIQUE TO THE BASS, USING CHARLIE’S IDEAS, BUT CHANGED SOME THINGS… THEN I TRIED IT FIRST FOR MYSELF AND THEN FOR MY STUDENTS… IN THE BEGINNING, NO ONE WAS ABLE TO PLAY IT VERY, VERY FAST!

TODAY I WILL SHOW YOU AGAIN THE MINOR WITH A MAJ 7TH CHORD… FOR EXAMPLE IN C IS WRITTEN Cmin maj7. (GO TO LESSON 1 FOR A COMPLETE CHART) WITH THIS LESSON, WE WILL APPLY CHROMATICS TO THIS PARTICULAR VOICING.THE SOUND OF THIS CHORD IS TRULY INTERESTING.

OK, NOW IT’S TIME FOR THE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT!

1) TAKE THE EXERCISE…

WHAT HAPPENS HERE? I USE A Cmin maj7 ARPEGGIO. YOU HAVE TO APPROACH CHROMATICALLY EVERY NOTE IN THE ARPEGGIO FROM THE LOWEST NOTE TO THE HIGHEST NOTE THAT YOU FIND IN YOUR INSTRUMENT (THIS IS WRITTEN FOR A 24 FRET 4 STRING BASS, BUT YOU CAN ADAPT IT TO EVERY BASS!

REMEMBER: DO NOT USE A METRONOME! ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE THE EXERCISE “UNDER YOUR FINGERS”, CAN YOU USE A METRONOME.

AS USUAL PLAY THE EXERCISE AS FAST AS YOU CAN!

2) TRANSPOSE THE EXERCISE IN ALL KEYS!
