Bassist Dylan Taylor Releases His Latest Album, Sweeter for the Struggle

Multiple genres weave in and out of Sweeter for the Struggle, Dylan Taylor’s latest album. A showcase of the diversity of Taylor’s tastes, the album is all held together with his identifiable bass stylings and perpetual groove. Be prepared to be taken through turns of straight ahead, fusion, Afro-Cuban, blues, avant-garde, and more.

Masterful talents, the likes of Bobby Zankel, Tom Lawton, Craig McIver, Bob Meashey, and Steve Tirpak all gratefully and gracefully join in on the production, each lending their own voice so that the sum is truly greater than the parts. Not only that, but the great Larry Coryell, a longtime friend of Taylor’s, is also featured on the album quite generously. In fact, the new recording of “Low-Lee-Tah,” a Coryell tune, is the fulfillment of a boyhood dream of Taylor’s – to record this groundbreaking fusion composition with the composer himself.

Dylan Taylor studied bass with Al Stauffer, Dennis Sandole, Buster Williams (under an NEA Jazz study Fellowship) and John Pattitcci at City College of New York. Taylor has shared the stage with artists such as Larry Coryell, Lee Konitz, Freddie Hubbard, Butch Ballard, and Mose Allison.Taylor has recorded with Heath Allen; Khan Jamal (on C.I.M.P.), Kelly Meashey (on C.I.M.P.) and Bobby Zankel (on Dreambox Media and C.I.M.P.). Recently, his musical score for the feature film, Takao Dancer, was premiered at the Tokyo International Film Festival.
