HI MY “BASS” FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES… HOPE ALL IS WELL WITH YOU!

TODAY WE CONTINUE ON OUR IMPROVISATION JOURNEY. AS I HAVE SAID DURING PREVIOUS LESSONS (ACCORDING TO COOL JAZZ PIANIST AND TEACHER MARK LEVINE), A GREAT SOLO CONSISTS OF 1% MAGIC AND 99% OF STUFF THAT IS   EXPLAINABLE, ANALYZABLE, CATEGORIZEABLE, DOABLE.

THE PURPOSE OF MY LESSONS IS MOSTLY ABOUT 99% STUFF 🙂 SO DO NOT BE SURPRISED IF THESE LESSONS SEEMS SO REPETITIVE! IMPROVISATION IS AN ART AND IT NEEDS GREAT PRACTICE.

IF YOU NOTICE, I USE A SUBJECT AND I WORK ON IT OVER AND OVER. REPETITION IS THE KEY… REAPEAT UNTIL YOU FEEL BORED AND YOU’LL BE ON THE RIGHT TRACK.

OK, TODAY WE’VE ARRIVED AT THE 12TH LESSON ABOUT CHROMATIC APPROACHES, AND WE WILL WORK OVER Cmajb5 CHORD (C E Gflat B ). I USE THE SAME KIND OF LINES I’VE USED IN PREVIOUS LESSONS.

NOW IT’S TIME FOR THE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT:

1) TAKE THE EXERCISE. WHAT HAPPENS HERE? I USED A C MAJ b5 CHORD ARPEGGIO AND ADDED CHROMATIC APPROACHES TO CREATE AN 8 BARS PHRASE.

REMEMBER, DO NOT USE A METRONOME; ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE THE EXERCISE “UNDER YOUR FINGERS”, CAN YOU USE A METRONOME. AS USUAL PLAY THE EXERCISE AS FAST AS YOU CAN!

2) TRANPOSE THE EXERCISE IN ALL KEYS

3) ANALYZE HOW I USED THE NOTES AND THEN WRITE AN EXERCISE ON YOUR OWN

DON’T WORRY IF YOU DON’ T LIKE YOUR LINES… JUST WRITE IT!
