This book, in hardback edition, starts out with some history of the bass and different types of basses. It covers the bass hardware that makes up the instrument in a broader fashion, covering everything from the body style, frets, pickups, and more. It also covers some very influential bassists, and the basses they play. Amps, speakers, effects, and cables are covered in great detail, from the history, to cabinet configurations, frequency, types of effects, and cable types.
On the playing presentation side of the book, it covers technique, notes, tuning, reading notation and tablature, scales, different genres, and grooves. Included with Hal Leonard’s The Bass Handbook by Adrian Ashton is a CD that covers the 97 exercises in the book.
Hal Leonard’s The Bass Handbook by Adrian Ashton is a great book covering not only the history of the bass, and practically everything else you need to know about the bass. I don’t believe there wasn’t a subject that was covered. This is a great book for beginners to advanced players even to you as a refresher, and a great read.
