Pigtronix Bass Envelope Phaser – Gear Review

Wanna get the funk out, or should I say get the funk on? The Pigtronix Bass Envelope Phaser will help you achieve that in more ways than you can imagine.

This is not an envelope filter in the sense that an envelope filter gives you more of a wah-wah sound. The Pigtronix Bass Envelope Phaser is a simple pedal designed specifically to give you the best envelope phase tone with little to no effort. There are two knobs and one toggle switch that control the amount and effect of envelope phase that you want to achieve. The sensitivity knob and resonance knobs control the amount of phase effect that you want, and the up/down toggle switch controls the direction of the phase sweep. The pedal also has what it called a high speed staccato envelope, which will drop the effect when you stop playing a note. The Pigtronix Bass Envelope Phaser is true bypass when not engaged.

The Pigtronix Bass Envelope Phaser comes with an 18 volt adapter, but will also run on a 9 volt boss style adapter as well. I recommend using 18 volts to run the pedal in order to get the maximum effect. If you don’t wish to use the supplied adapter, most pedal board power supplies do come with 18-volt connectors. There is not an option for using a battery, and I consider this being a plus, because it reduces the footprint of the pedal.

I had a lot of fun testing this with both finger and slap styles. I did place the pedal before and after the Pigtronix Philosopher Bass Compressor when testing it out and it did give outstanding results no matter the placement.
