As the season approaches, what could be more fitting than Earth Wind & Fire’s first and only holiday CD, ”Holiday“?

I wandered into the stores early November and saw the Christmas displays with giant racks of CD’s done by almost every artist on the planet. I have to wonder what makes this one so different? The answer is plain and simple, Earth Wind & Fire does Christmas music in their unique, extraordinary style and they make these seasonal standards their own. They even top it all off with their classic tune, “December” (actually based on the tune “September”).

This CD is  fully loaded with a tight horn section, well executed keyboard work, precise vocals, serious guitar & string sections and a rhythmic signature that makes you able to ID the band with your eyes closed. The driving tempos make you want to get right up and dance. Make sure you keep your ears alert for the Kalimba that makes a few cameo appearances. The intricate arrangements are the work of a accomplished musician that knows how to bring the best out of his band.

All in all, this is a highly polished, refined, flawless gem of holiday cheer. As always, the whole musical work is driven by the consistently solid bass work that Mr Verdine White brings to the table. The upbeat, palpable joy in the very familiar song list makes this CD perfect for that upcoming holiday party you have planned. I would not be surprised to hear some of these in movie soundtracks down the line.
