Review: Ray Brown, Legendary Jazz Bassist Artist Transcription Series by Matthew Rybicki

Ray Brown, Legendary Jazz Bassist Artist Transcription Series by Matthew Rybicki, published by Hal Leonard contains eighteen transcriptions from some of Ray’s most classic performances. I don’t know of any bassist that doesn’t love and want to learn from Ray Brown’s performances over the years with many jazz greats from Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Oscar Peterson, and many more. Matthew details the tools and methods he used to transcribe the tunes that are in the book, along with song notes for each tune.

Ray Brown, Artist Transcription Series by Matthew Rybicki is very well constructed with each tune having easy to read notation, album the tune was transcribes from, chord progression, tempos, and composer. Matthew Rybicki did an outstanding job with the transcriptions and a book dedicated to the great Ray Brown is a must for your collection and practice routine.

Transcriptions include Autumn in New York, Custard Puff, Days of Wine and Roses, Easy Does It, Gravy Waltz, Have You Met Miss Jones?, How High the Moon, I’m an Old Cowhand (From the Rio Grande), I’m Glad There Is You (In This World of Ordinary People), Killer Joe, Love Is Here to Stay, Mack the Knife, Moten Swing, Night Train, Sometimes I’m Happy, The Surrey with the Fringe on Top, Tune Up, and Up There
