Expanding the Slap Bass Vocabulary with Ray Riendeau – Groove #3…

Hello fellow bassists!

Last month I introduced the “Rake Down”, a technique that involves fanning out your fingers (I tend to use my index and middle) in a downward motion across a single string or multiple strings. This months groove incorporates the rake down AND the rake up, same technique but you are raking up instead of down, all on a muted G string. For the triplet at the end I use thumb down, thumb up, index pop. This groove will work nicely over a Gm or G7.

L = Left Hand

H = Hammer On

T = Thumb (2 T?s in a row is T down followed by T up)

P1 = Pop Index Finger

P2 = Pop Middle Finger

X = Percussive Note (notated on string being attacked)

RD = Rake Down (fanning your fingers in a downward motion across string(s)

RU = Rake Up (fanning your fingers in a upward motion across string(s)

H = Hammer On
