Need a great plugin for bass, guitar, and well, just about any instrument? I think the Peavey Revalver 4 has you covered for everything, except for the kitchen sink.

The Peavey Revalver 4 is an amp sim and more. It works with all of the popular DAWs that support VST and AU, and runs as a stand alone too.

The Revalver Producer Pack is what was reviewed; however, there is a demo version if you just want to try it out for evaluation. The Producer Pack has twenty-eight stomp pedals, twenty amps, including two bass amps, and sixty four cabinet choices to mix and match with amp heads. With the cabinets, you can choose mic placement on the speaker, mic choices for different colors of tones, and cabinet impedance. It has audio stream splitters, and the ability to host third party plugins via VST or AU.

There are nine effects. You can build two separate chains of stomp boxes, amps and effects, and move them around in any order. Just think in a live or recording situation where you can have two pedal boards, two amps, and two effect racks, well, you can do this with Peavey Revalver 4. A summarized list of stomp boxes and effects is listed at the end of the review.

Peavey took this even a step farther. You can also tweak the schematic on every pedal, amp, and effect. This really gives you endless possibilities on the different sounds and tones you can create. Everything works great with any instrument.

And with all of the above, you would think it would be difficult and time consuming to learn, but it’s not at all like that. Granted, you will explore more and learn more as you use it each time, but right out of the box, the Revalver 4 is ready to go. Pull up devices in gig mode, which can be switched via MIDI, save and load presets, and move things around to your liking.

I tested it with Logic Pro X and Cubase. In Logic, load as Audio Unit. It automatically loaded in stereo for me, and worked with any instrument, even the software instruments. In Cubase, it works same way but needs to be loaded as an Insert in the inspector panel. With that aside, it will work with any DAW that supports either VST or AU.

You would think that would be it, but there is more, and more is good! Right next to the Input volume control, there is a down arrow that brings up the Input Mixer. The first module of the Input Mixer has an adjustable gain knob, VU meter, mono switch, pickup RMS that lets you choose between 50mV and 5V, letting you tweak to specify the level of your pickup, and allows you to save or load default.

The second module is a noisegate, with an adjustable threshold.

The third module is a tuner, which has seven guitar tunings and six bass tunings available and also allows you to adjust frequency between 430 and 450.

The forth module is the ACT Input Shaper, which allows you to record a profile for your instruments and also has an EQ filter. If that isn’t enough, you have the Output Mixer. The Output Mixer is accessed by clicking on the dropdown arrow next to the output volume knob.

The first module allows you to adjust the volume of each channel. Remember, you can create two stacks of stomp boxes, amps and effects, and this lets you control the overall volume for each, letting you move them around however you see fit.

The second module is the ACT Output Shaper, which is just like the ACT Input Shaper, but without EQ.

The Third module is a 7-band EQ.

The fourth module is a compressor, and the final module is a VU Meter that also lets you adjust gain output.
