Expanding the Slap Bass Vocabulary with Ray Riendeau – Groove #8…

Greetings all!

This months’ groove can be played over an E minor or E dominant chord. This one really puts to use the “double thumbing” technique where you attack a string with your thumb either as a downstroke, passing through the string (TD) or as an upstroke (TU). This is similar to playing with a pic but with your thumb instead. There also is a left hand mute and a left hand hammer. This has a sixteenth note feel so try and play as evenly as possible.

Slap on!

L = Left Hand

X = Percussive Note (notated on string being attacked)

TD = Thumb attacks string as a downstroke passing through string.

TU = Thumb attacks string with an upstroke, usually following a thumbed

downstroke.

H = Hammer On
