Expanding the Slap Bass Vocabulary with Ray Riendeau – Groove #10
Greetings all!
This months’ groove has a James Brown feel/vibe to it, but with slap. It’s a bit more involved rhythmically than previous grooves so be sure to take it slow at first.
As far as techniques, it uses Left hand hammering for some notes, a few popped notes ( I use first finger) and also some more of the Rake Up/Rake Down stuff we’ve covered before.

L = Left Hand
X = Percussive Note (notated on string being attacked)
RD = Rake Down (Fanning your finger(s) in a downward motion across
the string(s)
RU = Rake Up (Fanning your finger(s) in a Upward motion across the
string(s)
P = Popped note
