Brand new from Hal Leonard in the Bass Play-Along series is the Dream Theater Bass Play-Along Volume 47. Covering ten songs, the book and audio combo package is complete with easy to read notation and tab, chord changes, time signature changes, tempo changes, lyrics with melody, and songs ranging from 4 to 5 and 6 string bass.

The ten songs included are: Breaking all Illusions, Erotomania, Fatal Tragedy, Hell’s Kitchen, In the Presence of Enemies. Pt.1, Metropolis-Part 1 “The Miracle and the Sleeper”, On the Backs of Angels, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence: !. Overture, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence: II. About to Crash, and Under a Glass Moon. All the songs are on albums from the Dream Theater years 1992 through 2011. The albums the songs are from Images and Words, Metropolis-Part 1, A Dramatic Turn of Events, Awake, Falling Into Infinity, Systematic Chaos, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, and Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory.

The audio files are readily available from the Hal Leonard library and can be played or downloaded from the site. When the files are played from the website, the new Playback+ is used. Playback+ is an interface for the audio file allowing you to change the speed without affecting pitch, change the pitch, pan from left to right, loop a section, fast forward, rewind, and of course, playback. In the play window, there is a clock displaying the exact second of the tune being played back. This makes it much easier to loop a section knowing the time stamp. Each song has a demonstration track containing bass and the play-along track without bass.  Tracks contain guitars, bass, drums, and keyboards. There are no vocals on the track allowing you to concentrate on just learning the bass parts and playing along. When the tracks are downloaded, they are in mp3 format and contain the demonstration track and play-along track.
