iKlip A/V Raises The Bar on Smartphone Audio and Video
Developed with the assistance of mobile broadcast professionals, the iKlip A/V will easily become your best friend if you do a lot of YouTube demos and rely on your smartphone. The integrated microphone preamp with phantom power allows you to use a high-quality external microphone or wireless unit, as it accepts a standard XLR input. What this means is that the SM58 that you use for everything can now be used with your phone as you’re recording the next bass cover, or instructional video. And for yours truly, this means that I can finally stop recording the audio separately and then splicing it in (unless I really want to, I guess).
Super easy (as it should be) to set up. Snap the phone into the Xtend, take the 1/8″ cord and plug it in, plug the microphone into the XLR input, and voila! Because it has the option, I mounted it to a camera stand to make a quick video. It took a little bit of trial and error to not distort the audio, but with the gain dial on the side of the A/V and a pair of headphones, it was easy to do so. From there, the end result was much better than it would’ve been had I used my phone by itself.
The iKlip A/V from IK Multimedia is a very simple, yet effective, way to take your iPhone videos up a notch by incorporating your XLR microphones. In this day and age where everything is online, having something like the iKlip A/V is an easy way to make the quality of your videos stand out above the rest.
