One of the latest entries into the 6-string bass world is the ESP LTD B-206SM 6 String Bass.

First off, the string spacing on the LTD B-206SM is perfect with enough room to get funky with some slap lines or just laying down something cool with finger style. The layout of this fine bass makes it easy for chordal playing in the upper range, and being 24-fret, there is a lot of room.

It consists of an Ash body with a Spalted Maple top with a see thru black satin finish with matching headstock. The neck is wide, yet thin, and allows access, even for smaller hands, across the entire fretboard. The neck is 5-piece maple and rosewood with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard complete with XJ frets. XJ Frets allow you to play faster without using much effort, allowing for a lighter touch and more tone. The fretboard radius is 400mm and one of the best necks I have encountered on a 6-string bass, especially within this price range.

The neck pickup is the ESP Designed SB-6N, with the bridge pickup being the ESP Designed SB-6B. Both pickups are passive. The 3 Band EQ for the LTD B-206SM is active with controls for volume, balance, bass, mid, treble, and 9V powered. The bridge is the LTD DB-6 and the tuners are LTD. All hardware is black nickel and really compliments the see thru black satin finish over the Ash body and Spalted Maple top.

I thoroughly enjoyed using this bass live on a few gigs, as well as working with it in my home studio. It stands with the best of the 6-string basses in much higher price ranges and is very comparable side-by-side with them as well.

The LTD B-206SM is also available with a natural satin finish, and as left handed in a natural satin finish!

Whether you are looking into adding a 6-string to your collection, or have been playing them for years, the ESP LTD B-206SM 6-string bass definitely deserves a good look. Check it out at a music retailer near you!
