The Cort GB74 OPN 4-String Bass is yet another fine bass in the GB series that I am honored to have the privilege to review.

The GB74 really stands out in quality workmanship, playability and performance. Not only that, it is a lot of fun to play.

I really don’t like to have to make any adjustments to any new bass that I get and I must say, I was really amazed at the setup of the GB74; it came from the factory perfectly setup to suit my tastes.

The neck reminds me of some of the older vintage basses and the tones were a mix from the vintage and modern day basses. OPN stands for Open Pore Natural and you can really feel the grain in the double cutaway swamp ash body. The bass is an extension of you, and as silly as it may sound, what better way than to have the natural feel of swamp ash wood. The swamp ash body comes in two flavors, natural or blonde.

The 34” scale bolt-on neck is Canadian Hard Maple with your choice of 22 fret Rosewood or Maple fingerboards, with rectangular white pearl inlays.

The electronics consist of a PSEB1A-4/F and MBA4P-4 pickups. The MM Humbucker pickups can deliver warm or punchy tones to suite your tastes.

The active EQ is 3-band with a colt tap and is powered by one 9-volt battery; the battery compartment flips open and is easily accessible. The output jack is the Neutrik Locking output jack; no more stepping on cables and having them fall out in the middle of your performance. For me, these are almost a necessity on my basses. The tuners are the Hipshot Ultralights, and the bridge is the EB12(4). All hardware is chrome.
