In this new release from Hal Leonard, part of a series, is the The Real Book Multi Tracks Maiden Voyage Play-Along Vol 1.

Review - Hal Leonard’s The Real Book Multi Tracks Maiden Voyage Play-Along Vol 1-2Hal Leonard has taken learning Jazz tunes to a new level with a complete way to play-along with the 10 songs in Vol 1. There are ten songs, which include some of the top Jazz tunes that you should know. Among them are Autumn Leaves, Blue Bossa, Doxy, Footprints, Maiden Voyage, Now’s the Time, On Green Dolphin Street, Satin Doll, Summertime, and Tune Up. And this isn’t limited just to bass, it is great for all instruments including Bb and Eb instruments. Each tune includes charts in C for treble and bass clef instruments as well as the charts for Bb and Eb instruments.

MP3’s are available from the Hal Leonard online library for each tune. In addition to being able to download the MP3, Hal Leonard provides an online way to choose what parts you do or don’t want to hear. You can choose from horn, piano, bass, and drums to play along with. So for instance, you can follow along on bass and play the lead by turning off the horn part and leaving the walking bass line present, or vice-versa.

A lead sheet is provided with the online portion and a red line guides you along as the turn progresses. I must note that in order to use or not use specific parts, that portion is only available online, and only the stereo mix for the MP3’s can be downloaded. A click is also available along with count in, if you prefer, as well as being able to set a specific section to loop and the option to change the speed of the tune.
