This month we got to experience the 12′ Octobass, with a staggering low of 16 Hz!

We were treated to an exclusive demonstration of the Octobass at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, AZ by Curator Rich Walter, PhD. This place is a “Must See” if you are in Phoenix!

The Octobass is an extremely large bowed string instrument that was first built around 1850 in Paris by the French luthier Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume. Because of the extreme fingerboard length and string thickness, the musician plays it using a system of levers and pedals.  Read More
