Review – DSM OmniCabSim Deluxe Pedal

From DSM Noisemaker comes a pedal that is a “tweakable cabinet simulator”, as the manufacturer calls it.   For the bassist that is looking for the option of changing their sound while keeping it natural, the DSM OmniCabSim Deluxe is the answer.

The pedal is well laid out and features a quiet foot switch.  Aesthetically, this pedal looks good.  The control potentiometers are outfitted with large knobs for easy adjustment.  The large knobs also provide an easy view to the current knob settings even when the pedal is on the floor.

The DSM OmniCabSim Deluxe pedal is impressive in its flexibility.

It can be used with headphones, and it is equipped with a headphone level control knob.  This pedal also has a 1/8 inch “aux in” input to allow for playing along with recordings.  In addition to being used with headphones, the DSM OmniCabSim Deluxe can be used in the studio in place of an amplifier and speaker cabinet.  This is achieved by plugging the output of the pedal into the mixing console.

There are several outputs on the DSM OmniCabSim Deluxe.

One is a ¼ inch “through” jack that can be used to send a signal to a tuner.  Of course, a creative player may want to send a signal to another channel in the studio or to an amp.   The output ¼” jack carries the wet/dry signal of the bass.  There is also an XLR balanced output as well.  The addition of a “ground lift” switch makes the DSM OmniCabSim Deluxe an ideal candidate for the studio.

DSM Noisemaker chose to only allow this pedal to be powered by a pedal power supply.

There is no 9volt battery option available.  Although some may consider this to be a shortcoming, this design limitation ensures that this pedal will always have adequate and reliable power from either an electric outlet or a dedicated pedal power supply, which is not included.
